In the crane hire world there are two types of service on offer:
- CPA Crane Hire (The and crane driver is under your instruction for the day.)
You are in charge and responsible for the crane as soon as it leaves the public highway. The risk assessment and method statement should be produced by your Appointed Person. You are responsible for slinging the loads and banking and supervising the crane.
- CPA Contact Lift (A fully managed and insured lift undertaken by us.)
A site visit will be arranged prior to the lift where the crane size and any additional equipment required will be determined and a risk assessment and method statement produced by a CPCS Appointed Person. The lifting operation will be supervised and undertaken by a CPCS Crane Lift Supervisor who will sling the loads and bank and supervise the crane, following instructions given by our Appointed Person. Depending on the requirements of the job we are able to provide additional personnel to ensure the lifting operation progresses smoothly.
Each service has different responsibilities for us the crane provider and you the customer. The differences in responsibilities is outlined below:
CPA Crane Hire
You are responsible for:
- Safety and welfare of crane operator.
- Safe operation of the crane.
- Supplying an appointed person.
- Carry out all work in accordance with BS7121
- Provide third party liability and hired plant insurance.
- Producing risk assessment and method statement.
We are responsible for:
- Providing a suitable crane.
- Providing a CPCS trained crane operator.
CPA Contact Lift
You are responsible for:
- Allowing access to for a full site survey from
one of our CPCS appointed persons. - Supplying information of the load to be lifted.
- Advise us of any hazards that are not evident
in the site visit.
We are responsible for:
- Supplying an a CPCS appointed person.
- Produce risk assessment and method statement.
- Organisation and control of the lifting operation.
- Carry out all work in accordance with BS7121.
- Provide a CPCS trained crane operator.
- Provide a suitable crane.
- Loss of or damage to other property caused solely by the owner’s negligence in the performance of the lifting contract subject to:
- A maximum liability of £25,000 in
respect to goods lifted. (This can be
increased with prior arrangement) - A maximum liability of £5,000,000 in
respect to loss or damage to other
property and injury of persons.
